Live At Rockpalast

Live At Rockpalast by Public Image Limited is released on 27 February 2012 by the Made In Germany label on CD and DVD formats (Cat. Nos. MIG90422 and MIG90427 respectively). Featuring 13 incendiary tracks, Live At Rockpalast also boasts a highly sought after version of the Sex Pistols classic Anarchy In The UK, which at that time was very rarely performed by PiL. Bonuses on the DVD format include an interview with Rockpalast host Alan Bangs as well as ultra rare and never heard before rehearsals for the concert.

The show was recorded on 31st October 1983 at Zeche, Bochum, and is remarkable in many ways. It does not only contains the highlights of the previous albums like the song Public Image (played twice!), haunting and rare versions of Chant or Under The House, but also Anarchy In The UK and a "preview" of some highlights of the then forthcoming 1984-album This Is What You Want? This Is What you Get, including one of the biggest PiL-Hits ever: (This Is Not A) Love Song.

Public Image Ltd are an English post-punk band formed by vocalist John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten), guitarist Keith Levene and bassist Jah Wobble after the break-up of the Sex Pistols. By the time of the recording of this collection in 1983, the line up of the first three albums had already disbanded ? only Martin Atkins as a drummer remained from the recordings of Flowers Of Romance. In 1983 Lydon and Atkins and some session players embarked on a worldwide tour which led them to Tokyo (where the album Live In Tokyo) was recorded ? and to Germany as well.

Lydon rapidly built a new career with the acclaimed Public Image Limited. The early albums, First Issue, Metal Box and Flowers Of Romance are now seen as absolute classics of post punk and the highlights of these albums are united in this unique Rockpalast concert. With PiL currently working on a new album, Live At Rockpalast is timeless as a document and still today a totally unique event.
