Sirens & The Dungeons Are Calling:
The Complete Session

"Sirens & The Dungeons Are Calling: The Complete Session" by Savatage [Cat No 0204012ERE] is released on 11 April 2011 via Edel's international rock label, earMUSIC distributed in the UK & Republic of Ireland by Absolute via Universal. This album represents the first two Savatage metal albums released together on one CD with a bonus track and liner notes as part of a series of 14 album re-issues. Digitally remastered in 2010, this release also includes an exclusively recorded acoustic versions of "In The Dream" as a bonus track.

"Sirens & The Dungeons Are Calling: The Complete Session" was originally released separately in 1983 and 1984. Both records are considered to be the two earliest examples of death metal music, with some even calling "Sirens" the first ever death metal album. "Sirens" is Savatage's debut album, recorded in 1980 but released in 1983, while "The Dungeons Are Calling" was released in 1984 as a long EP. Jon Oliva said, "'Sirens' and 'The Dungeons Are Calling' were recorded in one session. The songs were supposed to form our debut LP. It came out too long for vinyl so it was cut in two. For the first time now, the material is being released as one album, exactly as it was conceived."

Over a career spanning 12 albums and countless live performances, Savatage became a band of staggering power and limitless creativity. Formed by Jon and Criss Oliva in the early '80s, Savatage quickly established itself at the cutting edge of the hard rock world. Tempering savage metal attacks with haunting orchestrations and a distinctive melodic sense, the band pushed the artistic envelope of their genre and, in the process, garnered a large worldwide following. The unexpected death of guitarist Criss Oliva who was hit and killed by a drunk driver in 1993 shattered the band. Savatage continued on with various line-ups but on their 25th anniversary in 2007, Jon Oliva announced the definite breakup of Savatage. He concludes, "I'm so excited to give the fans the proper representation of all these albums. For them to be able to own them as they were meant to be heard and seen makes me very happy."
